Ahyun LEE (b.1997) is a Seoul-based painter. She received her BFA in Printmaking and Painting from Hongik University and later completed her MFA in Painting at the same institution. Through her background in printmaking, she explored digital printing and various image-making processes, which led to her interest in translating the structures and sensibilities of contemporary visual culture into painting.
In recent years, her work has been informed by her personal experience of being an identical twin, exploring how self-perception is shaped through constant comparison. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the virtual self and the real self within the environment of social media and digital media, where the coexistence of multiple selves resembles her own experience. Lee examines the moments of tension and rupture that occur when two similar identities collide, bringing personal narratives into her painting practice.
In her process, she often pushes paint across the surface to create space for new forms, or utilizes differences in viscosity to generate accidental shapes that are later developed into imagery. Observing how individuals compare their real identities with idealized images presented online, she visualizes the psychological desires and tensions of contemporary individuals through painting. Through this process, she questions how images are perceived and consumed between reality and the virtual realm.
이아현 **Ahyun LEE (b.1997)**는 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 페인팅 작가이다. 홍익대학교에서 판화와 회화를 복수 전공하였으며, 동 대학원 회화과에서 석사학위를 취득하였다. 판화를 전공하며 디지털 프린팅과 다양한 이미지 제작 방식을 경험하였고, 동시대 시각문화 속 이미지의 구조와 감각을 회화적으로 번역하는 데 관심을 두고 있다.
최근까지 일란성 쌍둥이로 살아온 개인적 경험에서 출발하여, 끊임없는 비교 속에서 형성되는 자아 인식의 구조를 탐구해왔다. 특히 SNS와 디지털 미디어 환경 속에서 형성되는 가상 자아와 현실 자아의 관계가 본인의 삶과 비슷한 점에 주목한다. 비슷한 외모로 형성된 두 자아가 충돌하는 지점에서의 균열현상에 흥미를 가지고 개인의 서사를 가져와 이를 페인팅 작업으로 풀어나간다.
물감을 밀어내면서 또 다른 형상의 자리를 확보하거나 물감의 점도의 차이를 이용해 우연적인 형상의 자리를 만들어 이를 묘사하기도 한다. 온라인 공간에서 이상화된 이미지와 현실의 자아를 비교하며 살아가는 현대인의 심리와 욕망을 관찰하고, 이러한 과정에서 발생하는 정체성의 긴장과 균열을 회화를 통해 시각화한다. 이러한 과정에서 이미지가 현실과 가상 사이에서 어떻게 인식되고 소비되는지에 대해 질문한다
